MADE WITH DRIED BEANS AND A VARIETY OF VEGETABLES, THESE BIG NORTHERN COOKER BEANS ARE DELICIOUS. THIS IS A FLEXIBLE RECIPE WHERE THE SEASONING VEGETABLES CAN BE CHANGED QUICKLY. YOU CAN ALSO MAKE THE BEANS WITH HAM OR BACON.
THE BEANS IN THE PHOTO WERE COOKED IN THE SLOWER WITHOUT BEING PRE-SOAKED OR COOKED, AND THEY ARE SUCCESSFUL. Soak the beans overnight if you have trouble getting them soft. ALTERNATELY SOAK QUICKLY (AS DIRECTED ON BEANS PACKAGING) THEN BOIL FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE APPLYING TO COOKER. ALTHOUGH MANY PEOPLE THINK SALT HAS LITTLE EFFECT ON THE TENDERNESS OF BEANS, APPLY IT AT THE END OF THE COOKING PROCESS, ONCE THE BEANS HAVE BECOME TENDER.

IT'S A PLEASURE PLEASURE WHEN YOU TRY IT FOR THE FIRST TIME AND YOU REALIZE WHAT TASTE IT IS. DRIED BEANS AND A VARIETY OF VEGETABLES ARE USED TO MAKE THESE GREAT CROCKPOT GREAT NORTHERN BEANS. THIS IS A FLEXIBLE RECIPE, AND THE SEASONING VEGETABLES CAN EASILY BE CHANGED.
*INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE THIS EASY CROCKPOT:
°An average package. For the northern dry beans, I used the 16 ounce sizes.
°3 to 4 Meaty shank shank, sometimes I used meaty ham bone as well.
°1 small white onion, diced.
°Enough water to covering beans.
°Salt / pepper
°1/2 c brown sugar.
*DIRECTIONS:
Step 1:
The first step I started with was to sort the beans for stones, then I cleaned them with cold water.
2nd step:
In the slow cooker, I combined the rinsed beans, along with the onion, sea salt, and pepper, along with the ham or hock shanks, which I cut into large chunks before.
Step 3:
After that I added enough water to cover the beans by about 2 inches. This could yield around 6-8 cups.
Step 4:
When done, I cover and cook on low about 20 minutes, & reduced to low & continued cook for another 4-5 h
Step 5:
Then I removed hocks , removing all the beef.
Step 6:
After that, I put the meat back in the slow cooker and added the brown sugar at this point.
Step 7:
I have found it extremely beneficial to strain out about 1 cup of juice before applying the brown sugar, depending on how thick or fine the grains are, and gently stir everything in to combine.
Step 8:
And to conclude, I preferred to pour some into individual bowls to serve!
Hope you enjoy this easy slow cooker, it's the perfect way to heat up your day, LOL!!! Don't forget to spice it up with Tabasco sauce!! This is an awesome option, everyone in the house loves it !
